  • Le 1er janvier : Journée du domaine public : Public Domain Day
    The first of January is a public holiday, of course, but it is also the date when creative work becomes part of the public domain if the author, artist, creator has been dead for 70 years. Copyright no longer applies.
    Meet Raoul Dufy et Roger Broders who both died in 1953.
  • Le 4 janvier: Journée mondiale du braille : World Braille Day
    This day celebrates the birth of Louis Braille and is observed to raise awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication. Louis Braille, a Frenchman, invented the system after being blinded in an accident at a young age. He invented the 6 dot fingerprint reading system when he was only 15 years old.
  • Le 8 janvier:  Journée internationale du bain moussant : World Bubble Bath Day
    Pourquoi ?  Pourquoi pas !  Vive l’insolite !

  • Le 10 janvier : Journée mondiale de Tintin
    Tintin, the young man with the quiff hairstyle, was created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé (Georges Remi) in 1929. His adventures have been published in more than 70 languages and have been adapted for radio, television, theatre, and film. Through his investigative reporting, quick-thinking, and all-around good nature, Tintin is always able to solve the mystery and complete the adventure.  General de Gaulle considered Tintin his only international rival.
        
  • Le 11 janvier : Journée Mondiale “merci » : World Thank You Day
    The politest date in the year is January 11. This day is observed as international thank you day.
    We all realize the importance of good manners in our life, but most thanks we say without thinking about the sense of the words. Nevertheless, words of thanks are magic in a way. They have warming and comforting effect if you say them sincerely and from the bottom of your heart.
     
  • Le 12 janvier: Journée des roux : Redheads or Kiss a Ginger Day
    Great Britain has more redheads per capita than the rest of the world combined. However, there must be some in Canada.  As a reaction to the Kick a Ginger Day, a Canadian launched this day to repair the injustice.
