Le 19 août  : Journée Mondiale de la Photographie :

Cette journée a été instaurée en hommage à l’invention du daguerréotype, l’un des premiers procédés photographiques, dont le brevet a été officiellement présenté au public le 19 août 1839 par l’Académie des sciences et l’Académie des beaux-arts de Paris.

This is the date in 1839 when the French government celebrated the 4-year-old Daguerreotype invented by Louis Daguerre. Mais pourquoi   “Dites Ouistiti” ?

En français, “ouistiti” est l’expression utilisée pour faire sourire les gens, notamment lors de séances de photos. C’est une alternative à “cheese” en anglais. On l’utilise pour inciter quelqu’un à sourire en mettant sa langue derrière les dents lors de la prononciation. 

In 2010 a famous camera-maker carried out a study to see which of the many words or phrases was the best at making us smile. Result? Amongst the 26 European expressions, it was the French “ouistiti!” (meaning marmoset in English) that produced the widest smiles.
