Tour de France : Accords Fromage
The Tour de France 2026 starts on July 4th. Many of you will be glued to your screens for the sport , of course, but also for the unfolding vistas of a beautiful France. I suggest that this year you add the pleasure of cheese to the mix.
Jonah Kincaid, the creator of the website the Cheese Scientist, can help you with your choice. He has been matching regional cheeses to every stage since 2022.
“The Tour de France is already a moving feast”, he states, “It just usually pretends to be about bicycles”. Where possible he chooses protected cheeses and regional classics. And he adds “a food pairing and a beverage pairing, because cheese without a sidekick is just dairy standing awkwardly in the corner”.
In his words, “this is not just a cycling route. This is a cheese board with altitude gain. The race starts in Barcelona, crosses the Pyrenees early, rolls through Bordeaux and the Dordogne, climbs into the volcanic cheese country of Cantal, then gets dangerously dairy-heavy through the Jura, Vosges and Alps before finishing in Paris”.
